UPDATE

Jac and her team all completed the walk yesterday - despite the torrential rain!  It was a fantastic day and spirits were high even though we were all pretty soggy. Our wee team mascot, Seb, trotted the whole way without complaint and wore his team mascot neckerchief with pride. 

We have well and truly smashed the original target and there is still a lot of offline sponsorship to be collected and added.  Any cheques payable to the charity will be added to offline total (which is automatically added to this page). I will leave this page open as long as possible to gather in the donations - so watch this space!!

Huge thanks to everyone who took part, and especially to Calum, Robert, Kevin and Bob who were our rescue crew and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day!

My name is Jacqueline Didsbury, I am 29 years old and in April last year I received a life saving double lung transplant due to being in the end stages of the genetic lung disease Cystic Fibrosis.  I was given a 50% chance of surviving 2 years when I was placed on the list...and I waited 2 years before I got that call.  Time really was running out.

Transplants not only save lives but change them beyond recognition - before the surgery I was on oxygen, using a wheelchair and becoming virtually housebound.  Since April I have started to live again!  I can meet friends, go shopping, walk the dog and I am going back to work.  I am effectively getting my life back, all because of the generosity of my donor and their family.

I decided to take on a physical challenge to show that I really am putting these new lungs to good use!  I have put together a team of 171 people  -  'Team Jac' - all of whom have kindly agreed to join me in this event, where we hope to raise as much money as possible!  We will be walking approximately 10 miles from Elie to Leven, as part of the Fife Coastal Path, and despite the inevitable sore legs and feet, we hope to have a really fun day!

I am living proof that transplants do work, and do save lives...but sadly there are so many people who are not as lucky. I know this only too well having already lost two sisters to CF - my younger sister waited 2 1/2 years on the transplant list but that call just never came.

Over 6500 are waiting on transplants but less than 3000 are carried out per year.  There is a huge shortage of organ donors, which is why I am donating the money to Live Life Then Give Life, a charity who works tirelessly to raise awareness of organ donation with the aim of increasing the numbers of transplants carried out.
