Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my story of losing my beautiful Dad.

Since the end of 2010 my Dad found it very difficult to walk and was
diagnosed for sometime with Sciatica.

However after sign of no improvement of the condition, further tests were done as it was discovered that Dad had an a Aneurysm which left untreated could be fatal.

During this time my Mum and Dad were visiting my brother on 31st August 2011 when my Dad appeared to have a stroke and was taken by ambulance to hospital. It was at this point the Doctors discovered a Brain Tumour and was quickly referred to Addenbrookes.
Dad initially signed up on a research program, but firstly had to undergo an operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible.
In September another fate of misfortune was that the aneurysm began to rupture and Dad underwent an emergency AAA which fortunately Dad survived thanks to Colchester General Hospital.
At this point myself and friends walked the Yorkshire 3 peaks and raised money for the Critical care unit at Colchester and the Anthony Nolan trust for Sam and Jon Smale's nephew "Joe" who had undergone  a bone marrow transplant and had recently been given the all clear.

From this moment Dad had a tough road ahead. He went into Addenbrookes to have the tumour removed, but it was discovered that the tumour was growing from within the brain itself.

It was at this point we received the devasting news that there was no cure, but a course of Radiotherapy to give Dad some time with us all. We were thankful to spend Christmas Day with Dad but from there the deterioration was rapid.
Dad spent his last few weeks at home and we were fortunate to have the St Elizabeth Hospice Ipswich One Call at Home made available to him.

This was an service that allowed my Mum,Dad myself, sister and brother to spend very cherished time together at our family home which both Mum and Dad adored.
Dad died on the 22nd January 2012 at home with us at his bedside. I set up a just giving site in Dads memory for the hospice which so far has raised over £1200.
This is where I need help. Again a group of friends and myself are raising money for The Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust: the UKs leading BrainTumour charity by walking the National 3 Peaks.

Our walk will start on 16th June and will be completed on Fathers day.
This means everything to me, I miss him everyday.

I would like to thank Michelle Goodchild, Tom Leggett, Craig Rollingson, Jon and Sam Smale (Jon lost his mum "Betty" 8 years ago to a secondary Brain Tumour), Louise Cook and our Drivers Adam and Neil on helping me on this journey to raise money for this great cause.

Over 8500 people are diagnosed every year with a primary Brain Tumour including 500 children and young people.

3500 people will die with a Brain Tumour every year.

Of the £504 million spent on Cancer research in the uk, less than 1% is spent on Brain Tumour research, it relies 100% on voluntary donations.
