Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
On Sunday 31 May, RFC team members past and present will participate in the Edinburgh Marathon Hairy Haggis Relay race.
The relay race consists of legs of two 8 miles and two of 5 miles, and our team is made up of Joanne Kerr, Sam McCarlie, Allan Cuthell and George McNeill. Our training regimes have by our own admission been a bit patchy, but hopefully we will manage to get round the course somehow.
The run does have a more serious point to it, as we are hoping to raise funds for Muirfield Riding for the Disabled (RDA).
Muirfield RDA is an organisation based in Gullane, East Lothian which provides therapy and support to around 160 persons with a range of disabilities by giving the opportunity to ride and be with horses on a weekly basis. It is a proven fact that those with disabilities respond to being with horses and their core strength, well being and self confidence are enhanced significantly.
Some of you who know George will realise that he is speaking from personal experience, as his elder daughter Sophie regularly attends Muirfield. Sophie is almost 4 years old now, and was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, at the age of 2. Her condition means that she suffers from severe learning difficulties and speech delay. However, she is a very determined wee girl, and is constantly striving to overcome her disabilities. Mobility-wise, she is now able to take approx 20 to 30 steps unaided, and it is thought that she will be able to walk independently within the next few months. A large part of her mobility progress can be attributed to her riding sessions at Muirfield. They are currently fundraising for specific improvements to and expansion of the facilities, which we would really like to help them out with.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Muirfield Group Of The Riding For The Disabled Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
