The Hope for a Child Sahara Desert Trek

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Emily Wild & Lee Hubert will trek the Sahara Desert in November to raise funds for Hope for a Child. Having previously trekked through the rugged jungle in Thailand in 2010, this is their next big challenge!

The expedition will take them through a forbidding landscape, punctuated by stark peaks, formidable gorges and bright oases. The group will trek across the dry, open land in high temperatures and will camp each night in Bedouin tents and end with a challenging climb up Jebel Lamrakeb. The rest is left to the imagination!

Every penny donated will go towards Hope for a Child's main projects of Village Savings & Loan Associations in Uganda, which have proved to be extremely successful and are helping hundreds of people in the poorest parts across Uganda.

A VSLA is a self-selected group of people who pool their money into a fund of which members can borrow. After a period of time, money can be loaned to people within the group at an agreed interest rate. It is a method of empowering the poorest of the poor to generate income, and in effect, empower a Mother to earn.

The vision is to roll out VSLA groups throughout Uganda and Africa as a whole, but without the help from others like you, sponsoring us crazy trekkers, this is not possible, so please dig deep and donate now.
