We're losing our sight but not our bottle: eight of us with a genetic eye disease - and some fully-sighted friends - are attempting to cross 40 miles of Iceland's volcanic interior on foot without failling into any lava-filled chasms.
Our challenge is designed to raise awareness of retinitis pigmentosa - a family of incurable conditions which gradually destroy the retina and which are the biggest cause of blindness in the working population and among children - and raise funds for research into a treatment.
Exciting advances are being made towards possible treatments for RP such as the "bionic eyes" featured on the television news. But they were only possible thanks to charities like RP Fighting Blindness and events like this and will only bear fruit with our continued support.
So please give what you can and hopefully future generations will be able to go trekking without any help at all. Thank you
