Joe's Dry Year

Team photo

Hello my name is Joe Denly and thank you for taking time to look at my page. I have decided to give up alcohol for 2016, whilst raising money for charity at the same time.

I am taking on this HUGE personal challenge for a few reasons.  My hangovers are becoming unbearable and last 2-3 days, probably because I don't drink often but when I do I am a bit of a binge drinker and not great at knowing my limits.

Most of the time I am the joker of the pack and wake up with an embarrassed wife and not having much recollection of why!

I have been thinking of not drinking for a while and on New Year's Eve a few friends and family laughed and joked at my chances of being able to even complete a month let alone a year.  This lead to them all betting me £100 each that I wouldn't last, which made me think, if I could raise that money in the space of 5 minutes, how much could I raise in a year, all for two great causes!!!!

My charities of choice are the PCA Benevolent Fund and Cancer Research.

I have been a professional cricketer for 13 years and play at Kent CCC. I have seen what a great job The benevolent fund does in supporting past and present players and their families so I am keen to support the cricketing family as you never know when you may need their help. For more information about the work they do please see

www.thepca.co.uk/benevolent_fund.html

Cancer Research is one a bit closer to home as I have quite a bit of family history with this terrible disease.  Recently my Mum, Sister and Aunty have all had their own personal fight with cancer but thankfully won their battles. This is largely down to the amazing work that Cancer Research do.

Thank you in advance for your support and any donation will be greatly received :-)

Cheers (something I look forward to saying again in 2017!)
