This year I will be participating in Movember, for which Tina is delighted! I won’t be donating to the usual Movember cause, but will be donating to two other cancer charities that are close to my heart. I ask you to dig deep and support me for the good causes I’m doing this for and also for sympathy due to the grief I’m getting from Tina for having facial hair again after so long!
The two charities I’ll be supporting are:
· Pancreatic Cancer UK. Steve Haggerty is a good friend and ex-colleague of mine who has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Steve is a time served railwayman (I’ll call him that even though he’s a track engineer!). I met him when we worked together at Jarvis in Rugby and we’ve stayed in contact ever since.
Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed too late and Pancreatic Cancer UK is raising awareness as well as researching for cures and providing help to sufferers. I’m sure the charity will provide invaluable support for Steve during his time left with us so I’d like to help them help him and their research to try and prevent cancer in the future. The Ashgate Hospice near Chesterfield. My close friend Sarah Dewhurst, or “Sis” as I jokingly called her, spent her last days there last year after succumbing to secondary cancers.
They were amazing and made her as comfortable as possible during her difficult time there. Sarah was such a kind and caring person, she deserved the care she received and I miss her dearly. I’d like to go some way to ensure others can benefit from the work they do as well as thank them for what they did for Sarah. I hope you agree I have two worthy causes, please dig deep!!
