We provide emergency shelter and tools to support families overwhelmed by disaster

Story

The Hebridean Challenge Team:

After a wet and wintry windsurf, Jane and Sam were chatting on the beach, and came up with the idea of the Hebridean Challenge. Sam and her partner Phil have just completed a gnarly Cornish Half-Ironman, so he had to join the team. Phil contacted his friend Paul, a mountainbiker, and fresh from the Neolithic Marathon, who was also keen. Jane thought of Jon, a salty old sea dog, and ex captain of the Perranporth surf boat club; he jumped at the opportunity.

Jane is a ShelterBox Response Team volunteer. Thus using our Challenge to raise money for ShelterBox was a natural choice.

We would like to reassure you that all the money that you can donate will go dreckly and directly to ShelterBox. We are funding our Challenge ourselves.

The Challenge:

The Hebridean Challenge is a relay race using human power to negotiate a course of approximately 700km in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. We will be traversing the land by foot, road bike and mountain bike, and the water by swimming or sea kayak.

In addition, we will be trying to raise as much money as possible for ShelterBox, a Cornish charity. ShelterBox aims to provide humanitarian aid worldwide in the form of warmth, shelter and comfort to people displaced by natural and other disasters.

Disaster victims have often lost their possessions as well as their homes. They need shelter until the local infrastructure is rebuilt. Your donation will buy part (or all) of a ShelterBox which will help an extended family of up to ten people for a minimum of six months. This is not only immediately lifesaving but can provide victims with some dignity and comfort during a terrible time.

ShelterBox has no political and no religious affiliations. ShelterBox has already sent over 1,600 boxes to help the victims of the cyclone in Burma. The majority of these tents have now been used in two of the worst hit areas of Lobutta and Bogale. Two ShelterBox Response Team volunteers are also in China, ready to distribute boxes as they arrive.

Thank you for your support- it will spur us on when the going gets tough!!!
