Story
We did it! On 13 April 2009, at sunrise, TEAM SHOOTING STAR reached the roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at 19,455 ft (Ben Nevis is 4,409 ft), Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain and is also noted as being the highest point on earth attainable by a non-experienced and non-technical mountaineer.
Two of the team, Paul and Darren, reached the summit (5,895m); Dalton and Mike reached Gilman's Point (5,681m) - one of the three recognised peaks at the top. Sadly, Nick had to descend at 5,360m due to altitude sickness, which affected us all in one way or another.
It is not too late to sponsor the team. Please help us to support more children, young people and their families.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Shooting Star Children's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Every Penny Counts. Thank you.
