Story

The Teeofftimes team are supporting the Big Golf Drive for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2012 in two ways. On Friday 24th August we are asking our partner clubs to donate an hour's worth of tee times, as well as playing non-stop golf from dawn to dusk:72 holes, 300-odd shots, 20 miles walked... and £10,000 raised for MacMillan Cancer Support. That’s the challenge that awaits the 9 intrepid members of the Teeofftimes.co.uk and Golfbreaks.com team that are taking on the Longest Day Challenge.

Yes, we’re playing four rounds of golf in one epic day that will raise significant funds for a fantastic charity that does so much to provide practical, medical and financial support for cancer sufferers. With 1 in 3 people affected in some way by cancer, its importance is immeasurable, its need for resources enormous.

And that’s where we need your help! The £10,000 we aim to raise will really make a difference, whether it’s used to buy liquidisers for people whose treatment makes eating solid food difficult or helping to fund a MacMillan nurse. So if you are able to, please sponsor us and help us to reach this goal. No matter how small the donation, every pound is invaluable.

So who are the men charged with taking on this mighty mission? Read on and find out…

Rich Barker, Head of Product & Business Development, Teeofftimes: A PGA pro who plays off scratch but isn’t averse to scratching around in the trees.

Jim Manson, Operations Manager, Teeofftimes: Gritty 4-handicap with a score to settle after a recent defeat to an 18-handicap colleague.

Nathan Payne, Account Manager (Midlands), Teeofftimes:Long game of a hacker, short game of a pro, game like a box of chocolates, handicap of 8ish

Rob Corcoran, Account Manager (Midlands/North Wales), Teeofftimes: A former Warfare Officer in the Royal Navy, 13-handicap Rob should have no problems with bunkers or water hazards.

Steve Hemsworth, MD, Golfbreaks:A 13-handicap he says... and who’s really going to argue with the MD?

Stephen Clements, Sales Manager, Teeofftimes: Recently completed the London Marathon… 16-handicap Stevo will probably want to run home afterwards.

Rob Saunders, Account Manager (South), Teeofftimes: 24-handicap who uses only a 4-iron. Flop shot over bunkers not his favourite shot.

Duncan Rougvie, Account Manager (North), Teeofftimes: Born in Scotland, Dunc naturally knows how to get it round (and avoid getting in a round!) Plays off 24.

Gareth Ilbery, E-Commerce manager Teeofftimes: 24-handicap Gareth is a former accountant… which comes in handy when adding up sevens, eights and nines.

The day itself will be huge physical and mental challenge, but after months spent training body and mind to cope with the demands we’re primed for action. Actually, we’re just going to turn up and give it our best, but rest assured that effort will compensate for any deficiencies of skill.

Teeofftimes.co.uk is all about making it easier to play more golf. More than 250,000 people a year book through the online service, and this challenge is the ideal opportunity for those who love the game to really make a difference. We’re committed to helping raise these much-needed funds but we need all the help we can get so please, dig deep and help us to help them.
