*** STOP PRESS RACE 5 SANTA DASH 5K in Marlow Sunday 6th December

*** STOP PRESS  WE DID IT  - THE BIG ONE - the GREAT SOUTH RUN on Sun. 25th October  - 10 miles in 2 hrs 1min  HURRAH!***

*** STOP PRESS We completed our 3rd run on September 27th, the Hampton Court 10k in 1hr 10mins - we are getting faster, if only very slightly! ***

*** STOP PRESS Charity screening of "Sunshine Cleaning" at Guildford Odeon raised over £800 ***

In a mad moment we have decided to make a difference by completing 10 runs and raising £10,000 for the charity Caring Matters Now over the next 12 months starting June 6th with a 5k race. We thought we should start off gently!

Elspeth, my daughter and Clare's goddaughter was born with Congenital Melnocytic Naevus (CMN's). They are birthmarks and regarded as a type of benign tumour. They cover 25% of Elspeth's body and of other children sometimes as much as 80%.

Only 1 in 20,000 babies each year are born with this condition. As a result maternity staff are unlikely to have heard of it . We left hospital with Elspeth with very little advice, waiting for an appointment at Great Ormond Street for the specialist there to tell us if her CMN's were benign. We experienced a rollercoaster of emotions during the first few weeks after her birth. We worried we may lose her, struggled with our own and others' reactions to her marks and the uncertainty of her future. At the same time we were blessed with a new addition to our family, a beautiful baby girl, and a sister for William and Martha.

We now know that her CMN's are benign and will hopefully remain so. We continue to be supported by GOSH with 6 monthly check ups.

Elspeth is now 4 and is a determined and confident child who takes a great delight in life! She is rather proud of her CMNs and calls them her "special  Elspie marks".

Hopefully one day there will be treatment available as a result of  research into Congenital Melanocytic Naevus (CMN)  carried out at Great Ormond Street. It is however paid for entirely by the money raised by Caring Matters Now. They need to raise £30,000 p.a  to continue with this vital research. So every penny raised through this website will count.

So far we have booked on to the following races:
6 June    Stoke Park Guildford  5k
12 July    Hyde Park   10k - now completed - 1hr 13mins
27 Sept  Hampton Court  10k - now completed 1hr 10mins
25 Oct    Great South Run 10 miles
Where other charities organise the race we will be making a contribution to their cause.

We'll be organising other events too. Watch this space...

We will be so grateful for any contribution you feel able to make. And if you would like to do more than donating your hard earned cash it would be rather fantastic if you joined us for 1 or all?!! of our races. You too could become a pink chick.
