Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Our little girl Eden Summer was born weighing 3lbs 2oz at 29 wks, 11 wks, early by emergency caesarean at Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital, miles away from our local hospital which didn't have the facillities to look after a baby so small .

I only got to see Eden for seconds before she was whisked away from us to be put on a ventilator.I didn't get to see her then till the following morning in intensive care, she had a makeshift hat on & eyemask, she had wires & lines everywhere she looked so helpless, frail & tiny. Eden had many problems one of which was jaundice which meant she had to stay under a lamp for a few days. She also had to have 3 blood transfusions because of all the blood they had to draw from her & still has the needle scars on her hands & feet to this day. The only way she could feed was through a tube in her nose as she was too young to have developed the sucking reflex. The worst though was when we walked into intensive care while her doctor was doing an ultasound on her head, her incubator was surrounded by other doctors & nurses & we heard the words 'theres a bleed on her brain', me & my husband were devastated.

I eventually held Eden for the first time after 4 days and quickly started kangaroo care which Bliss says helps pre-term babies and parents,it did, after 3 wks Eden was transferred to our local hospital where she stayed another 3 wks after which we were allowed to bring her home. It was the scariest time of our lives but the staff at both hospitals and Bliss were fantastic .

Eden will be 6 on 13th August she is a very happy & very loving little girl . Although she still has some lasting effects from being born so early she has been very lucky & has proven how strong & determined she is by winning the fight for her life. Sadly in the first week of Eden's life 2 babies in the same intensive care unit lost their fight .

The work Bliss does is amazing and my husband and me are trying to raise as much money as possible for them to continue their work. Eden's incubator was donated to the hospital by Bliss & the intensive care unit was also referred to as Bliss. So thats why we will be running 10 miles in The Great South Run so please help us help babies like Eden.
