My story
What We Are Doing
On July 19th Jeremy Green, Simon Davis, Janine Clark and I (James Murray) fly to Peru to climb Mt. Pisco. To say we are not athletes is an understatement. Pisco is 3.5 miles high, that's 5752m or 18,871ft. Miles, metres or feet that's bloody high. It will take 4 days of trekking and sleeping at different altitudes to acclimatise before we can even start at the foot of the mountain. It will take 2.5 days to reach the summit and 1.5 days to get down. We will need crampons, ropes, helmets, ice picks and a miracle. I found out earlier this week that it includes a 100m crawl up a 60degree ice slope....joy! Temperatures will fall below -10degrees Celsius!
This page is called the fat man and the mountain because I set it up but the other guys thought it was such a good cause they wanted to raise money for Project Peru as well.
We are the most unlikely group of mountaineers; an overweight recruitment consultant, a woman who lives in the desert, a video game designer who smokes and a very skinny HR Advisor for a fashion business.......what could go wrong?
Who We Are Doing It For
Originally we were not doing this for charity, we just wanted the challenge. All costs of the trip are being paid for by us guys. Any sponsorship will go straight to the charity.
Peru suffers from massive inequality and the most disadvantaged members of their society live in poverty. Project Peru are a registered UK charity that runs a refuge for over 30 children from the shanty towns of Lima, including those who have been abandoned or placed in danger by the poverty that surrounds them. The UK staff are all volunteers.
Project 's main requirements:
Periodic capital costs for our own buildings and garden.
Development of outreach projects in the local community .
Specific external building projects in other parts of .
Their core running costs- as an indication, this includes the monthly revenue costs of running the project, including wages, food, health, education, psychological support, extra-curricular activities, transport, services, building maintenance, legal and administrative costs, educational visits
What will it take to fund this?
A £60 donation plus Giftaid* will pay for one child to live for a month in their refuge
A £30 donation plus Giftaid* will pay for one child for two weeksA £15 donation plus Giftaid* will pay for one child for a week
Actual cost per day for one child is £2. 50 ...we normally have 36 children.
[* Giftaid currently gives us an additional 28% from personal donations by taxpayers]
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Project Peru will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
