Story

The Lanes Heartbeat, formed by neighbours of Mickering Lane and Sandy Lane in Aughton, is partnering with AEDdonate to raise funds for a public access defibrillator that will be installed on the exterior wall of No 24 Mickering Lane.

This life-saving device will be accessible to the local community and anyone passing through the area in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Why a Defibrillator at The Lanes is So Important

Mickering Lane and Sandy Lane are popular walking and cycling routes, regularly used by residents, dog walkers, runners and cyclists travelling through the countryside around Aughton.

Currently, there are no community buildings nearby where a defibrillator could be installed, and the nearest defibrillator is some distance away. In an emergency, those lost minutes travelling to retrieve a device could mean the difference between life and death.

Each year in the UK, over 30,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Tragically, 620 of these are under the age of 35, and 270 are children, often while at school, in public places, or during everyday activities.

Having a defibrillator available within the first 3 minutes of a cardiac arrest can increase survival chances to over 80%. Installing a device at Mickering Lane would provide a vital piece of emergency equipment for the surrounding community and those using these well-loved local routes.

How a Defibrillator Will Help the Community

Once installed, the defibrillator will be registered with the local ambulance service and will be available for public use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This does not replace emergency services, but it provides immediate, potentially life-saving treatment while an ambulance is on its way. The sooner a defibrillator is used, the greater the chance of survival.
