The reason we are donating for the Pilgrims Hospices:
In July 2009, a very good friend of mine, Marie, passed away. She was only 29 and had battled with Cancer for the last 5 years, and also fought cancer when she was just 7.
Her last days were spent in the Pilgrims Hospice at Canterbury. I went to visit her - she was extremely ill and unable to speak. In the short time I was there (about an hour) I was asked at least 5 times by staff if I was ok and to let them know if I needed anything. I was surprised, that wasn't expected. The support they give to their patients and the visitors is amazing.
They cared as best they could for Marie and made sure she was always comfortable. All the staff I met and spoke to were such warm and caring people, you could tell they genuinely wanted to help.
I'm sure it's a very difficult doing the things they have to do and seeing the things they have to see. I admire and thank them for their strength and pasison to do it.
Marie was an inspirational person who will be hugely missed. She was always fundraising for Cancer Research and I aim to carry that on for her, but I also felt I needed to help the pilgrims hospice too - I'm sure she'd agree.
There are 3 Pilgrims Hospices: in Canterbury, Ashford, and Thanet. They need to raise £8 million a year to keep delivering the care they gave to Marie to others who need it. For more information please visit their website www.pilgrimshospice.org
