Hi Everyone,

Thanks for coming to our donations page for The Best Way 2009.  As many of you will know Andrew Best sadly passed away on December 11th 2008, aged just 36.  Andrew died from malignant melanoma, leaving behind his wife Nicola and their two lovely girls Emily (4) and Rachel (2).

It has been an incredibly sad and testing time for all of us, but with this challenge we are endeavouring to channel our energy into something positive. This cycle trip will start in Edinburgh where Andrew lived for almost 18 years and finish in Portadown, Northern Ireland, where he grew up.  The planned trip will take place over the weekend of the 13-14th June 2009, ending with a BBQ/Party at Portadown Rugby Club to celebrate Andrew.

While ill Andrew recieved amazing care from Marie Curie and without charitable support this incredible organisation could not help alleviate the suffering of people with cancer and indeed help support their families.  With this in mind we are aiming to raise as much cash as possible to help them continue their great work.

Your donation will make a real difference:

£20 - Pays for a Marie Curie Nurse for one hour in the home

£30 - Buys a slide sheet used by Marie Curie Nurses to move patients in bed.

£125 - Would pay for attendance at a Day Therapy unit for one day in a Marie Curie hospice.

£160 - Pays for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in the patient's home.

£400 - Pays for Marie Curie Cancer Care's contribution to the cost of caring for an in-patient in a hospice for a day.

£800 - Supports a team of scientists for a day at the Marie Curie Research Institute.

£3,000 -  Would pay the drug bill for one week at a Marie Curie hospice.

We have set up a website to coordinate the event  the best way which will carry details of the route, have lots of photos and have a message board for people to use.

The website also has links to other sponsorship pages for friends cycling the event  for Cancer Research UK, so between all of us we feel we will have the bases covered on the charity front!  If you are feeling generous please feel free to sponsor them!

This page will be updated with new team members as they sign up to do the cycle ride!!
