A big thank you to all who took part in our fundraising event.  This Just Giving page, plus the Marie Curoe one, were just the tip of the iceberg.  Having chatted to all the organisers, while we do not have a final figure as yet, we do know that the total raised is in excess of £100,000.00 Once again - WELL DONE to all concerned - a great achievement, and a great tribute to a great friend!

UPDATE 22-12-08

I regret to update thate Andy has lost his battle with Cancer, and passed away in his sleep at the Marie Curie hospice in Edinburgh on Thursday 11th December 2008. He passed peacefully with his family by his side.

A big thank you to all who attended the funeral, I know it was a very sad time but the number of people who turned out on what was a treacherous day is a tribute to how highly regarded  Andy was, and to see so many of his friends and co-workers was a fitting testamony, and a great support to the family.

Please note: due to popular demand the date for this event has been postponed by one week to the 13th and 14th June 2009

If you have visited my page before, you may remember that a couple of years ago (or 3) I ran for CRUK in the Edinburgh 10k.  Last time I raised the money as a very good friend had been diagnosed with a Malignant Melanoma. - I was feeling pretty useless about the whole scenario (as I'm sure most people do in these circumsatances) and thought it seemed a good way to feel like I was making a difference.

It's now time to get back in the saddle again! - .

Andy Best was originally from Portadown NI, but  lived in Edinburgh for pretty much the last 18 years, making it his family home for Himself and his wife and 2 young daughters.

Andy has always been a keen outdoorsman, with  particular penchant for cycling. So my plan is: To get as many people who know Andy, to get off their backsides, and onto their bikes on the 13th and 14th of June 2009, and join me in raising money for Cancer Research UK in Andy's honour, by doing a sponsored cycle from Portadown, via the ferry from Larne to Troon, and on to Edinburgh (approx 120 miles in the saddle), with one overnight stop (venue to be decided). I would be delighted if you not only sponsor me, but join me in raising money for this worthwhile cause.

Last time out, without too much effort I managed to raise £2500.00.  This time, with your help and hopefully participation, I am setting the target at a not too ambitious £10,000.00.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now, or better still, become a team member on this page and do the ride with me!
