Over 1.5 million in the UK have endometriosis and the impact of the disease is for some devastating, yet diagnosis takes on average 8 years. With your donations we are turning this around, raising awareness, providing support and information, supporting research, and campaigning for change.

Story

Hi there, thank you so much for visiting my page!

Well, what am I about!?  OK, well my name is Chris and I am going to be 32 years old (in August).  Due to personal ill health and my current medication I have quite literally ballooned in size this last 2 years. This is both depressing and also dangerous as there is a history of heart disease in my family.

So my plan of action is to lose weight (a lot of weight) from around my ample girth and in return I would like you to sponsor me - this will both act as encouragement and also provide essential funds to a charity that is close to my heart. No this isn't for the excellent British Heart Foundation, but for Endometriosis UK.  Their website provides a wealth of information on the disease that is endometriosis.  I am sure you will all agree that my plight is a cause worth contributing to.

For those of you that know me and my family well, this may seem a little boring but please stick it out!

Back in March 2003 my wife wife was formally diagnosed with Endometriosis, this was following a diagnostic laparoscopy.  A further 3 operations were then carried out between then and now.

The second operation involved;

1) Burning and removal of scar tissue around the womb;
2) Seperation of adhesions;
3) LUNAR (cutting of womb nerves to relieve pain);
4) Ovarian drilling of chocolate cysts;
5) Hysteroscopy.

The third operation involved

1) The removal of endometriosis tissue;
2) The separation of adhesions.

The fourth and (so far!) final operation involved

1) Another laparoscopic examination;
2) The flushing of womb and cervical area to prevent adhesions.

Thankfully the prognosis following the last laporoscopy should a significant reduction of endometrial tissue, however; the womb area appeared to be "bulky"

Throughout the last 6 years Louise has been on numerous medications some of which have had, quite frankly, horrific side effects and all in the hope of alleviating the pain and the disease.

Medications (other than normal over-the-counter pain relief) have included:

Codeine;
Amitriptyline (anti-depressant and muscle relaxant);
Mefenamic acid;
Mirtazapine
(this replaced amitriptyline);
Danazol;
Fluoxetine (treatment of depression);
Gestrinone (Dimetrose),
Hormone Replacement Therapy;
Tranexamic acid;
Prostap;
Clomid (to help with pregnancy);
Progesterone pessaries (to help keep womb lining thicker to miscarriage);
Mini pill;
Some pill taken tricyclically;
Mirena IUD
(currently in use).

Thankfully, through the miracle of modern science, Louise managed to give birth to our little miracle in 2007.  This was despite being told that she may never be able to have children of her own. Endometriosis UK have been a great pillar of strength for both of us and the meetings and special speakers they have are both inspirational and informative. So please donate to this much deserved cause and let us get more funding so that they can continue to help women across the United Kingdom.

So please sponsor me.  I aim to get down from a 42" waist to a 36" - Once I get to 36" I will perhaps contenplate further loss.  But I am going to do this properly!
