My story

The Brazil Nuts, Sandra, Sandie and Clare have held 3 fundraising events throughout the year. We were at the David Marshall Lodge in Aberfoyle on 25th April planting trees and have done 3 sponsored walks of 14 miles each; around Loch Ard forest, the Forth & Clyde canal and finally a cicular of Clacks including Alva, Tillicoultry, Gartmorn Dam, and Fishcross. (and we have the blisters to prove it!)

Aviemore Half Marathon 18th October 2009

Joanne Brown is helping to raise money by running in the Aviemore Half Marathon on the 18th October. She said "This is for Sandra Scobbie who was just the BEST nursery carer of both James and Cameron at Wellgreen Nursery.  She has been involved with Task for around 10 years and takes a keen interest in their success. She is about to embark on trip to Brazil at the end of October to work with young boys who are learning farming skills.  Her big love though is 'Casa Jimmy', looking after street kids who are under six years old.  Sandra is aiming to work for longer periods in Brazil in the coming year or so.

In October 2009 Sandra and Sandie are going to support the charity by going on an Eco Tour trip to visit and carry out volunteer work on Epsom College Farm. They will see for themselves how the money is being spent and will be giving a few talks on their return.

Charity Events were:

Alva Ceilidh in March raised the fantastic sum of £1211.

Stirling Race Night in June raised the amazing sum of £1600.

Dunblane Casino Night in August raised the sum of £800.

We would like to thank everyone who supported these events or who have been kind enough to make donations. Every penny will go to support the amazing work that TaskBrasil are doing in supporting these children.

Task Brasil Trust is a UK registered charity established in 1992. Its’ projects in Brazil improves the lives and supports the needs of very young children through to pregnant teenage girls who are living on the streets of Brazil. Task Brazil is supported by the Led Zeppelin rock icon, Jimmy Page, who witnessed first hand the deprivation of the children whilst playing a concert in Rio de Janeiro. The money donated was used to buy a plot of land in Santa Teresa on which ‘Casa Jimmy’ (a safe and happy home for abandoned children) was built.

Epsom College Farm is a 55 acre site bought by Task Brasil in 2002. The farm is located 90 km north east of Rio de Janeiro in a rural part of the state well known for its beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear natural ponds and impressive remnants of the original rainforest Mata Atlântica. There is currently a banana plantation, a citrus orchard and a vegetable garden surrounded by tropical fruit trees such as avocado, mango, acerola, cherimoya, papaya, carambole, guava and others. Half of its surface remains covered in lush native rainforest, unmodified or regenerating, which, due to its highly recognised botanical and wildlife habitat significance is managed as a conservation area. A natural spring provides an all year-round crystalline water supply, while the stream ‘Rio Soarinho’ crosses the property.

Task Brasil aims to develop the farm using integrated sustainable land-use principles, safe renewable sources of energy and organic/biodynamic farming techniques to create a productive and healthy environment for teenagers from the streets of Rio de Janeiro.
