There are no really effective treatments for stroke, research is needed to find some. Education is also needed to prevent it happening in the first place. Then when it does happen, the person needs immediate specialist care to minimise disability plus intense rehab and physio. Finally, everyone involved needs counselling and support. The Stroke Association works to improve all these things. They helped us after our Dad had a stroke in 2004. He died last summer so in his memory, I ran the London Marathon on 13 April to raise funds for the Stroke Association. I finished in 3h 51m 03s (official time). I'm delighted but exhausted and a bit limpy with feet that will not see open-toed shoes this summer. Thank you everyone! Off for a lie down now........ Someone remind me never to do this ever again.
