--------2 APRIL UPDATE: THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE DA VINCI APPEAL!--------

Following almost two years of fundraising, the da Vinci Appeal closed in early 2012. The Trust has raised enough money (approximately £350,000) to be able to purchase the rest of the Robot's cost using capital reserves; Bob and his team's climb was the last major activity to contribute to the total.

Any further money donated on this page will go directly into the Trust's central charitable fund.

Once again, Thank You for your support!

--------CONGRATULATIONS TO BOB AND HIS TEAM!-------

As you can see from the photos attached, the three mountain climbers - including former Barnet Hospital patient Bob Bhania - succeeded in their quest to reach the top of Mount Everest by Christmas Day. And what a view it must have been…one that they've now shared with some of history’s bravest travellers before them, in what is the 90 anniversary of the first British expedition to the legendary mountain.

To commemorate this achievement in what is a historic year for British mountain-climbing, Mr. Bhania’s team have generously decided to donate all charitable profits of their climb to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals da Vinci Robot Appeal.

This major £1.5m fundraising appeal, launched in March 2010, aims to purchase a state of the art da Vinci Surgical Robot for a number of cancerous and non-cancerous surgical procedures. It is the most technologically advanced surgical robotic system in the world. It uses robotic and computer technology to enhance the surgeon’s vision and movement during keyhole surgery, enabling more advanced minimally invasive surgery to be undertaken. This will increase the number of patients who will benefit from the faster recovery, less blood loss, lower pain levels and reduced hospital stay that keyhole surgery provides.

The da Vinci Robot has already made a significant difference to the lives of over 120 of our patients with a diagnosis of prostate, bladder and kidney cancers, and now hysterectomies as well. Its versatility allows it to be used on both male and female patients.

Supporters such as Mr. Bhania’s team and everyone who chooses to sponsor them will have taken part in a brilliant new initiative which impacts on everyone in our community. One in three people are affected by cancer coming into their lives; your support can make a difference to how we treat these cancers.

Please note that the Challenge was paid for by the team themselves, meaning that every penny you donate is going directly to the appeal. If you are a British taxpayer, you can help the appeal further by ticking the ‘Gift Aid’ button. This allows us to claim tax back on your donation.

Their climb may be finished, but you can continue to sponsor them today! So please continue to show these brave men your appreciation by supporting this cause.
