This year The Hairy Fairies will be taking on the Kilworth Challenge for the fourth time in the 20th anniversary of the event.

Although not in our original format I'm sure we can be just as successful. I mean, yes, Laura can throw and catch unlike any other girl but I think my 5 yard lob will more than compensate for her absence. And I don't believe we'll really miss Jill's prowess in a boat...As the core of the team I think Rachel and I can more than pull it together...

Who am I kidding? We need all the help we can get! And luckily Phil Mossman and Si Burns have come to our rescue bringing a bit more hairy than fairy to the team. The event itself is spread over a weekend with around 30 tough challenges over 30 miles. These are distributed around the countryside and involve physical activity like assault courses, running a mile up hill as fast as possible and balancing a wheelbarrow full of water around a log course as well as several mental challenges.

The charities this year cover national causes like Over The Wall Gang and more local charities such as Leicestershire Clubs for Young People and Duke's Barn. Over The Wall provide fun-filled holidays for seriously and terminally ill children and Duke's Barn's aim is to ensure all young people, however disadvantaged, have the opportunity to experience outdoor activities. In addition, groups such as community centres are also helped with much needed funds. The groups really are worthy and provide support, care and activity for those who find themselves in a vulnerable or difficult position.
