BHF - London to Brighton Bike Ride 2013 · 16 June 2013 ·

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

**Update 29/09/13 -  Jen and I were unable to take part in the L2B this year due to illness, but we have decided to ride in the Wiggle New Forest Sportive on 5th October instead. We plan to do the Standard route which is 70 miles of fun :) We are still riding in aid of the British Heart Foundation so that's where any further donations will go. If you've not donated already then please dig deep to support this amazing cause **

My sister Jen and I signed up for the L2B 2013 after I completed the off-road event last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jen had been my training partner and we both loved the idea of raising money to help other people, so signed up as a team this year. Nobody in our direct family had ever suffered with heart problems...until now.

At 3am on Thursday 21st March our dad suffered a massive heart attack. An ambulance was called which arrived in 3 minutes and immediately rushed him to hospital. By 6am he'd had a stent fitted and is now making an amazingly rapid and strong recovery.

Our dad wouldn't be with us now if it wasn't for the sterling efforts of the NHS paramedics, staff of Southampton General Hospital's Coronary Care Unit, and all the research carried out over the years by the British Heart Foundation. This is our way of saying thank you and helping ensure the great work they do continues for many more years and saves many more lives.
