Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m climbing the Matterhorn in the next few weeks to raise much needed funds for Brain Tumour Research.

Only 2% of cancer research funding goes towards brain tumour research, and so I thought it was important to try and raise money for this vital cause. More children and adults aged under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. It costs £3,000 a day to fund a team in Portsmouth to carry out research into this type of cancer - and so to be able to achieve this amount would be fantastic and a massive achievement. It is also great to know that I am playing my part in helping to beat this horrific disease in my mum's memory.

The Matterhorn is 14,690 foot high and is probably the most recognised mountain in the world, due to its unique triangular shape. Towering above the Swiss town of Zermatt, the mountain is fairly difficult to ascend by any route, and was one of the last Alpine mountains to be climbed.

I’ve been preparing for the climb for over 6 months with regular trips to Scotland and Wales. One week before the ascent, I’ll be spending a week acclimatising in the Southern Alps before joining a small team on the second week to train on some more technical peaks. Weather permitting, I hope to complete the self-funded climb and reach the summit during the early hours of Friday 23 August.

So please dig deep and donate now.
