Thank you for visiting my Help for Heroes fundraising page.  I have spent most of my working life involved in the London Corporate world.  Having been one of the main organisers of Europe's biggest Civil Rights protest "Liberty & Livelihood March" in September 2002, I have for the past seven years been a largely desk bound "High Net" fundraiser for a Kennington based charity.

The plight of the wounded servicemen and women, returning injured from Iraq and Afghanistan, captured my imagination and having discovered the work of Help for Heroes, I set about planning a fund raising event.

I decided upon a solo unsupported walk from Geneva to Santiago de Compestela in North West Spain on the ‘Way of St James’ medieval pilgrimage route.  At the relatively grand age of 47, and having spent my working life desk bound, I have resigned from my safe job, income and comfortable existence to spend three months on the ‘track’ to raise much needed money for this very important cause.   The route follows mountain paths, tracks, and forest trails through some of western Europe’s more remote regions, including overcoming the Pyrenees Mountains, a distance totalling some 1,255 miles.

The project has got off to an outstanding start with the remarkable support of some eminent military patrons including the Chief of the General Staff General Sir Richard Dannatt, General the Lord Guthrie, Major General Patrick Cordingley, Major General Arthur Denaro and Field Marshal's Bramall, Chapple and Inge.  Complimenting the military patrons is an eclectic group of civilian patrons including James Blunt, Martin Bell, Clarissa Dickson-Wright, Denis Healey, Frederick Forsyth, Edward Fox, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Stephen Venables.  All of whom have been struck by both the enormity of the task and the worthiness of the cause.

With my home on my back I am writting a blog, which can be found at, www.helpforheroes.org.uk/andrew_bruce/andrewbruce.html with regular updates on the countryside I am travelling through, my encounters with walkers and locals, details of my sore back and very sore feet and life on the road under a European Spring sky.
