Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Our run was yesterday, and yes we all manged to complete it! Result! We all met at 8.30am to register, our nerves were high, adrenaline pumping. Other runners were already arriving and lots of them looked very professional. Gareth brightened my day by pointing out one of the female runners who runs for England! Fantastic! No pressure then. By the time the race was due to start at 10:30am all three of us felt physically sick and were as nervous as hell. We were lead to the start and within seconds we were off. The speed at which some of them set off was crazy, and I knew that if I ran at that pace, there would be no way I would finish. Having already agreed that the three of us would run at our own paces, we were soon seperated with Gareth and Andy steeming off on front leaving me plodding on behind! There were almost 900 people running the race and seemed like all of them were passing me! No matter, my aim was to complete it, no matter what position. In the end, Gareth and Andy completed the race in 50 minutes, and I completed in 1 hour 2 minutes. A good result. Thanks everyone for your support. Gareth Wooffindin (our Quality Inspector here @ RC Jones) came up with the crazy idea of running the Barnsley 10k this year on the 16th November. Even crazier was that Andy Baxter (Senior Panel Technician) and I (Neilson Jones - MD) agreed to join him! I, not even having so much as run for a bus before, let alone attempt to run 10 km's must be mad! Why the name 'The Pacemakers' you ask? Well its not because we think we are going to be setting the pace........ more that we might need a pacemaker fitting by the end of the run!!!!! We are now training regularly and have been doing since the beginning of August. This run will not beat us! So, please dig deep. We are raising money for the Barnsley Hospice, an organisation which is not government funded, hence it needs every penny which can be raised. Its sole aim is to try and make peoples lives more comfortable while suffering from a critical/terminal illness. A much deserved charity, I hope you agree.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Barnsley Hospice Appeal gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
