<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">The 10k charity run in London on 10<sup>th</sup> July will be a real challenge for me. Until a fortnight ago, I had not done any running in my adult life (except for the bus). I am finding the training very hard despite initial enthusiasm, but am gradually increasing the distance I can run without collapsing in a heap. I am not aiming for a fast time, just to complete the course. I am getting encouragement and advice from my colleagues and family and the remarks re gazelles, face like a red-hot chilli pepper etc are not putting me off.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">I am very proud to be running on behalf of ASTI (Acid Survivors Trust International) and hope to raise as much money as I can to support victims of acid attacks. The charity was set up by my friend John Morrison OBE. John has seen at first hand the horrific injuries suffered after acid attacks. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">Acid survivors are predominantly women and girls, but young children and men have also been attacked.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Victims are not confined to particular racial or ethnic groups and attacks occur throughout the world.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> Attacks mostly , but not only, happen in developing countries where the rule of law is weak and poverty is extreme. </span>Acid attacks often cause very serious facial injuries. We need our faces for breathing, eating, seeing, speaking and smiling. It is not hard to imagine the serious psychological trauma associated with physical disfigurement. </span></p>
