Story
Last year a good friend of mine, Martin Ornellas, died at the age of 44 from a brain tumour.
It brought home to me the statistics involving neurological disabilities. 1 in 10 of us will die of a stroke and a similar number will survive one but with a disability. Further, did you know the biggest killer of teenagers is head injury?
The Brain and Spine Foundation helps people affected by a neurological disability, such as a stroke, brain tumour, MS and Parkinsons. It relies upon charitable donations. Hence I have been persuaded out of running retirement for one more marathon attempt.
Gabby Logan has been elected as Team Captain of this year's Brain and Spine Foundation Flora London Marathon Team. She follows in the footsteps of Des Lynam (2002 and 2001) and Michael Watson (2003). You may recall Michael Watson's remarkable courage propelled him back to the sporting arena when he walked the course over 6 days for the 2003 London Marathon.
Sponsoring online is the most efficient way for me to raise funds for the charity. If you are a UK taxpayer your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you.
Both myself and my chosen charity really appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously......it will help me over the last twenty six (of 26.2) miles!
Many thanks.
