We help people diagnosed with a brain tumour. We aim to give everyone diagnosed access to the resources that will put them back in control. We enable brain tumour patients and carers to become resilient and to utilise brain tumour support resources from all providers to their full potential.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.  This year we hope to blow all of our previous fundraising efforts out of the water by combining the fund raising for all of the events we are participating in into this one big sponsorship effort.  Graham and I intend to take part in 7 events this year, running a total of 100km between us and hiking 80km.  The events are as follows:

Relay for life  Portsmouth 17-Jul The Big Wight Matter IOW 24-26 Sep The Big Fun Run Southampton 09-Oct Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon  London 10-Oct Bupa Great South Run - 10 miles Portsmouth 24-Oct Hellrunner Longmore 27-Nov Eastbourne Santa Fun Run Eastnourne 05-Dec

In order to prevent you all from getting fed up of seeing Graham and I visiting you all with continuous sponsor forms we are combining all of our 2010 fund raising activities into this one huge fundraising page raising money for Brain Tumour Research and awareness through the charity Brainstrust*. (We will also have a paper sponsorship form for those of you who aren't keen on donating online).  As you are all aware this is very close to our hearts with Theresa currently undergoing chemotherapy for a reccurrent brain tumour.

We intend that this sponsorship page will remain open until after our final 2010 event the Eastbourne Santa Fun Run, so we will leave it up to you whether you wish to sponsor us:

- in advance for one event

-in advance for all events

-by kms completed

-on completion of the events - we will keep you all updated

OR any other way that you like

We totally understand that just as we are comitted to raising money for Brain Tumour Research and Awareness that some of you are committed to other charities as they are important to you.  Feel free to tell us if this is the case and we would welcome information on any fundraising activities you may be carrying out.

Thank you in advance for your much needed support in research and raising awareness in this hugely underestimated and underfunded disease.**

** Brain Cancer Facts

·         More children and people under the age of 40 die from a brain tumour in the UK than any other form of cancer, but despite this, brain tumour research still receives less than 1 percent of the national spend on cancer research in the UK.

·         65 percent more women die from a brain tumour than from cervical cancer.

·         They are the most lethal and devastating tumours  which are the most common form of cancer in people under 40.

·         Sixteen thousand people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.

·         Brain cancer kills more children than any other illness.

·         Brain tumours have overtaken leukaemia as the leading cause of cancer death in children.

·         In the UK, there are 6,000 new cases of primary brain tumour every year.

·         It is the fastest fatal disease in the over 65s.  The incidence is increasing significantly in this age group.

·         There is no UK-wide strategy for the treatment of, or research into, brain cancer.

·         As no structured research base exists for brain tumours, treatment options are limited.  It is not known why people get brain cancer.

·         Brain cancer research attracts relatively very little funding compared to other cancers, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate. This is why raising awareness and money is so important.
