Thank you for visiting the This Morning Christmas Appeal raising money for Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland. Each year This Morning works together with its viewers and celebrities to raise awareness and funds to help a charity over Christmas. We are thrilled to announce that Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland are the beneficiaries of the 2009 campaign.
Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland exist to help people live well with dementia today and to research to find a cure for tomorrow. They believe that no-one should have to cope with dementia on their own. The generous donations that you make mean they can provide care and support for people with dementia across the UK; through their network of branches, their telephone lines and their research programmes.
We set an original target for our Christmas Appeal of £100,000. Through our viewers enormous generosity this has now been reached and means we can help the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland even more than we had hoped to. Last year's Christmas Appeal on This Morning raised £142,000 for the nominated charity and we hope through our viewers continued generosity to raise even more than that for the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland this year. A donation of £5 could pay for one person to attend a Dementia Cafe for half an hour. These sessions give people with dementia and their carers a chance to receive support and advice in a safe and relaxed environment.
A donation of £10 could enable a person with dementia and their family to have a one-to-one dedicated time with an experienced support worker, helping them to access the support services and specific advice they need.
A donation of £15 could enable Alzheimer's Society or Alzheimer Scotland to answer one call to their helplines and to provide vital support and advice to that caller.
