MS is a disease of the central nervous system, which is often progressive and at present remains incurable. It is estimated that there are over 1,000 people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis in the Oxfordshire area. The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (Oxford) Ltd was specifically founded in 1984 to offer subsidised therapies to sufferers. The Centre is situated on Milton Park near Abingdon and provides a range of complementary therapies. Physiotherapy is essential to maintain and, where possible, increase mobility. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a method of breathing pure oxygen at higher than atmospheric pressure. While this does not cure MS, symptoms such as visual disburances, bladder control, balance, sensory perception and fatigue do improve for some people. Osteopathy, massage, reflexology and other therapies are recognised by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as beneficial for people with MS. All these therapies are provided at the Centre along with Podiatry. The Centre is run by volunteers, organised by a Committee and overseen by a part-time manager. The centre is entirely self-funding and relies on fundraising events and donations. The centre is affiliated to the Federation of Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centres.

Story

We are going to climb each of the three peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) with the added twist of cycling in between and home again. All in all that is about 700 miles of cycling and 25 miles of walking up and down  the mountains.

We aim to get all this done in 7 days and raise as much money as we can for two very deserving charities - the MS Thearapy Centre Oxford LTD, and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Sunday 30th August to Saturday 5th September 2009
