Thanks very much for taking time to look at our page and for your support in helping us raise £6,500 for the British Red Cross. A team of seven of us (five climbers and two support crew) are going to take part in a race to climb the three highest peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis in Scotland (1344m) Snowdon in Wales (1085m) & Scafell Pike in England (978m) in just 24 hours, to raising funds for the British Red Cross. This is a tall order as not only do we have to climb each peak our driving team face a 500 mile trip, transporting us between the 3 peaks. Add to this the fact that the only time available to sleep is during these journeys and you can see that we have our work cut out! However we have started training and feel confident that we are up to the challenge. Raising our target of £6,500 is going to be tough but with your help we are confident we will get there. Please remember to tick the gift aid box when making your donation as this means your donation will be worth an extra 28p for every £1 you pledge to the Red Cross. We will also be running events over the coming months to help with our fundraising, including a club night and BBQ and will get details of these out to you when we have them. By sponsoring us you are supporting the world’s greatest humanitarian organisation. The need for the Red Cross is perhaps greater now than it has ever been. At present, more than one billion people live in extreme poverty with no access to clean water or adequate nutrition. In recent years, extreme weather linked to climate change and an increasing number of natural disasters – including tsunamis, earthquakes and floods – have devastated communities across he world. As the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, the Red Cross can respond within hours to global crises and their rapid intervention often prevents major disasters from turning into full-scale humanitarian catastrophes. Just as importantly, they also stay behind once the media spotlight moves on to help communities recover and rebuild their livelihoods. Many serious crises do not receive any media coverage at all. Yet the Red Cross is always there. Not all emergencies are sudden. Three diseases alone (HIV, Tuberculosis and malaria) kill millions of people every year. Red Cross overseas health programmes bring vital support to those living with these diseases. In the UK they help thousands of people caught up in emergencies every year, from fires and floods to transport accidents and support thousands more facing personal crises due to vulnerability or ill health. Thank you very much for supporting us and more importantly the British Red Cross.
