10km Swimathon · 26 March 2009

We’re ZSL, an international conservation charity, and our vision is a world where wildlife thrives. We’re working every day to achieve this, through our science, our field conservation around the world and engaging millions of people through our two Zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page...again! Kelly and I completed 5km last year and hit our target of £1000! This year I want to raise twice the amount ... so I figured we had to swim twice the distance! (Kelly isn't convinced yet, but she'll be there!) FACT: (just in case you still needed a nudge to get your credit card out) Tigers are critically endangered with less than 4,000 remaining in the wild, if nothing is done to protect this species, it is predicted they will become extinct in the wild in just 20 years time. I manage Shepreth Wildlife Park, which is home to two tigers. We have been raising funds to help save their wild cousins for the last 4 years. 'Rana' will be 11 years old on 8th September, so Kelly and I will be taking the plunge and swimming 10km (or at least trying very hard) on this date. WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES: 21st Century Tiger - a unique wild tiger fundraising partnership between the Zoological Society of London and Global Tiger Patrol - ZSL will be collecting the funds on behalf of 21st Century Tiger, but 100% of the funds raised will go directly to wild tiger projects. (Shepreth Wildlife Park also hosts an annual Tiger Party on 4th August for Amba's birthday ... please put this date in your diary and let all your friends know. All funds raised throughout the event also go to the tiger charity) Kelly and I will be completing the swimathon between 3pm and 10pm (we hope!) at Royston Leisure Centre. We would like to say a big thank you to the manager, Richard Allan, for supporting us throughout both our training and the event itself. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at rebecca@sheprethwildlifepark.co.uk or visit www.21stCenturyTiger.org Thank you for your support, it really is appreciated and goes a long way to protecting this magnificent creature - every penny counts! Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. Zoological Society Of London gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
