Ashanti Akim Community Organisation (AACO) is a charity looking to improve education and empower young people in Dampong, central Ghana. I was at the opening ceremony of the school in 2007. Since then they have been building and expanding the capacity to provide more people with high school education. Here is the down low from AACO:
The 95,000 people of the Ashanti Akim district have 92 primary schools, 55 Junior Secondary Schools, but only 4 Senior Secondary Schools for those aged 15-19 to continue their education. Thats an average of one High School for every 5,000 15-19 year olds. This need for higher levels of education inspired the construction of The Dampong Jubilee High School which opened in September 2007. AACO is currently providing 60 kids with a high school education and helping them to prepare for university or a vocational trade.
I'm going to run the Peterborough half marathon quite fast and I hope you can give some money towards AACO as a result. When I get to the finish line I will stop running and probably have a drink.
