In 2018 we were part of an ALDI team which raised nearly £3000 for TCT by entering the ‘Challenger’ version of this event. A lot has happened since then, in our lives, in every TCT ward across the country, in the world. Now we’re raising the bar and attempting the same course - but with half the time to complete it…we’ve gone and entered the ‘Expert’ category
We haven’t got any fitter, in fact probably quite the opposite after a year of lockdowns and working at home nearer the fridge. I’m reliably informed that time hasn’t slowed down in Scotland. So why on earth we thought we’d be able to do in ONE DAY what we did in two last time is rather a mystery. But we’re going to try!
We’re doing this because if just by trying, giving it our best shot, we help TCT give more people their best shot, then every step is worth it.
In 2019, just a few months after our first entry to this race, my son Theo was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumour, a form of kidney cancer. The time we spent over the next year staying on children’s oncology wards in hospitals in Nottingham, Leicester and Cardiff showed me first hand the work that all cancer charities do. Those wards all had TCT support with a dedicated set of facilities for young adults. I can tell you first-hand that the treatment and environment which will help under-10s cope and thrive is very different to what a teenager and young adult needs. So your donations will help to create the best possible environment for young adults' cancer care, from facilities to equipment to nursing to ongoing wellbeing - but not only that, the entire ward benefits from what TCT do. All the time we were there I was proud to be a part of supporting TCT through ALDI.
Anything that you can give to help ALDI support TCT will make a real difference to real people’s lives, so thank you.
