My story

                                          *********************** UPDATE ******************************

We made it! After 19hours and 58 minutes we finally reached the Arc du Triumph. The journey included being shouted at by drunks in Croydon at 3am on a Saturday morning, cycling through the golden corn fields of northern France as the sun set, and concluding with a very scary lap of the Arc du Triumph when we finally arrived just before 11:30pm French time.

Thank you very much to everyone who sponsored us, it made it all worthwhile and both us and Changing Faces are very grateful.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you bored of sponsoring people to run marathons? Well here is your chance to not only give money to a great cause (Changing Faces) but also show your support for our attempt to do not one marathon but over 6 marathons one after the other, on a bike. As if that wasn’t hard enough, we are trying to do it in 24 hours!!

We are raising money and awareness for Changing Faces. This extremely worthy charity was set up by a mutual family friend to support children and adults with disfigurements. It does crucial work to help provide confidence and everyday advice to anyone who lives with a disfigurement. As with many charities, Changing Faces' good deeds go widely under-recognised and it relies heavily on generosity from people donating through events such as this to continue with its work.

To attempt a challenge worthy of the cause and to remind the world that we remain elite athletes, with bodies that are still temples worthy of worship, cementing our place alongside legendary British athletes such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Chris Hoy and, of course, Phil "The Power" Taylor we have decided to cycle from Marble Arch to the Arc du Triumph in 24 hours.

The Ride
The ride is 167miles or 269km which is the equivalent to one and a half laps of the M25, 1076 laps of the China Olympics velodrome, the length of Wembley football pitch 2562 times, longer than any of the 2009 Tour de France stages, or 4,896 of the Worlds Largest Totem Poles*….its a long way!

We plan to set off from Marble Arch early Saturday morning to cover the first 60 miles to Newhaven to catch a  9:30am ferry, 4 hours later we land on French soil at Dieppe and then face over 100 miles into Paris (this is almost twice what we have managed up until now!) We will have to cycle for about 11 hours averaging about 15 mph, so factoring in the 4 hour ferry and a few much needed breaks, we're not going to have much time to enjoy the sights!

Hopefully this has given you an idea of how difficult this ride is going to be. To help motivate us to ignore our weary limbs, aching backs and bruised bottoms, please help us reach our fund-raising target of £1000 by donating generously.  Any support you can show for this great cause will be most gratefully appreciated by both us and all those who are helped everyday by Changing Faces.

Thank you very much in advance.

Tim, James & Billy

* The world's longest totem pole was named the 'Spirit of Lekwammen', which means 'Land of the Winds', and stood 54.94 meters or 180 feet 3 inches in length.
