Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Latest news.....
We are on our way! We all gathered at HMS Victory in Portsmouth on a surprisingly sunny Bank Holiday Monday. The organisation and welcome committee was very slick and efficient, so we waved goodbye to our luggage and rode our bikes to the ferry terminal for an overnight sailing to Caen. Day one included wonderful services at Pegasus Bridge and a 50 mile ride, which wasn't too challenging, thank goodness. All went well except for 2 poor souls who fell from their bikes, resulting in a few broken ribs and a damaged head, and of course the end of the ride for them both.
A very big thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.
WHY I AM RIDING FOR HELP FOR HEROES
As many will know, I broke my neck playing rugby and would have ended up in Headley Court had the outcome been worse. I was lucky and have fully recovered. They do a fantastic job of rehabilitation for all seriously injured service personnel. Help for Heroes intends to fund a new swimming pool and gym, particularly to help those coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. The current gym was last refurbished after the Falklands War in 1982 and the only swimming pool is the local public pool - you may have seen the awful reaction of some members of the public when limbless soldiers were swimming there recently.
I am one of 300 lucky people to get a place on this sponsored bike ride in May/June; there were several thousand applicants. We are cycling 340 miles in 5 days around the battlefields of France, finishing at the Cenotaph on Sunday 1st June.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Help for Heroes will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
I must say a very big thank you to my corporate sponsor,
ProMedia Creative Solutions Group. Look out for their logo on my lycra!
So please sponsor me now! Many, many thanks for your support.
