Story
There seemed to be some concern for my well being amongst my family and friends so I thought I’d better let everyone know that I won’t need to take up any offers of paying my hospital bills having survived the London Duathlon on Sunday. Here’s how it all went ….
Arrived at a sunny Richmond Park with my brother in law and fellow FRODO athlete James at around 9am. I started the race at around 10:15 and took it fairly steady round the opening 9k run taking just under 45 minutes. Then I put together my most impressive time of the day, my 94 second transition from the run to the bike – although this was not down to any great speed on my part, more that I didn’t have any of the special bike kit everyone else seemed to have! My main aim over the bike course was to make sure I had enough energy to make it over the main climb on both laps and with both lungs intact! Just under 52 minutes for the bike section before my second best section - you’ve guessed it - the transition from the bike to the run. Started to feel the heat of the day on the final 5k run but managed a fairly respectable time of just under 24 minutes, giving an overall time of 2 hours 3 minutes 28 seconds.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored me and if anyone else would like to there’s still time and it would be greatly appreciated.
And here's the reason why I took part in this.....
Our local community is trying to raise money through a variety of events to support F.R.O.D.O.kids. The target is £25,000 which will be used to send a team of doctors from the UK to Romania to treat 70 children who are both disabled and orphaned and therefore typically the last in line for healthcare. For more details on F.R.O.D.O. see: http://www.frodokids.org/
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Foundation for the Relief of Disabled Orphans gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
