Right, it's that time again! After a break from charity challenges I'm back with the ultimate (till next time) challenge!

Over the next year I will be competing in two of the hardest foot races in the world, The Jungle Marathon & The Marathon Des Sables.

The Jungle Marathon

The race is staged in the Amazon rainforest and run over 6 days covering 200km, all competitors will carry all of their own kit which will total 15kg.

The stage distances are approximately as follows, but are subject to change at the discretion of the race director:
Stage One-departs 0700hrs - 16.3km, cut-off 17.30hrs
Stage two-departs 0600hrs -24.5km, cut-off 17.30hrs
Stage Three-departs 0600hrs -31.1km, cut-off 17.30hrs
Stage Four- departs 0730hrs 18.4km, cut-off 17.30hrs
Stage five-departs 0530hrs 87km- non stop overnight stage, dark zone 1600hrs to 0500hrs at CP4, cut off at 1900hrs on second day of stage
Stage Six departs 0800hrs-24.8km finish of 200km distance, cut-off 1700hrs
The course route is along pre-existing paths, trails and tracks through primary jungle. There will be natural obstacles to pass including streams and shallow rivers. The route will be well marked using coloured tape, paint markings and the use of landmarks to find your way. Although great navigational skills are not a prerequisite, commonsense is. The night stage will be clearly illuminated and along easily navigable routes.

The Marathon Des Sables

The Marathon Des Sables is a 6 day / 151 mile (243km) endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, normally taking place at the end of March / beginning of April and is, without a doubt, one of the best known and most feared races in the world. Details on the 2010 race are yet to be released but the race will follow the same format as The Jungle Marathon with all competitors carrying their own kit. What will make the race even harder will be the fact that we only have 5 months to recover from The Jungle Marathon.
