Story
Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page!
In August, I am competing in two triathlons to raise money for Jane's Appeal, the charity set up by the remarkable Jane Tomlinson who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2000. Since then, she has completed many arduous sporting events: marathons, triathlons, a John O'Groats to Land's End cycle and recently a Rome - Leeds cycle, stopping en route for her chemo treatment. She has achieved a great deal and several times when I have been sat on the sofa feeling lazy, I have seen her on the news or on a documentary and been immediately inspired to get out there, get fit and raise money for those in need.
The two events are the London Triathlon which happened on the 1st August and the UK Half Ironman (22/8/04). The London triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon, which is made up of three disciplines: 1.5km swim; 40km cycle; 10km run. The swim took place in Royal Victoria Docks outside the Excel Centre in the Docklands; they assured me this meets EU bathing standards, but the water didn't look very inviting! Somehow I survived that event and dragged my body over the line in 2h35. So, next up is the UK Half Ironman. A triathlon is quite hard work, but the realm of Ironman takes the sport to the next level - 1.9km swim, 90km cycle; 22km run. This takes place in the beautiful settings of Sherborne Castle in Dorset and as it will take me about 6 hours to (hopefully) complete, I will have ample opportunity to admire the scenery!
Jane's Appeal raises money for 4 charities: Hannah House, Macmillan Cancer Relief, The Paediatric Acute Services at Leeds Teaching Hospital and SPARKS (Sport Aiding Medical Research for KidS). I am aiming to raise £1000 from my endeavours, so any contributions from you would be hugely appreciated and make it that bit easier for me when I'm in agony, trying to complete the final run, knowing that I'm not just suffering for my own masochistic tendencies!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Rotary-IronmanUK Triathlon Charities will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. All the best, Tim
