NORSEMAN · 29 July 2008

SMA UK is a national charity supporting anyone affected by spinal muscular atrophy, a rare genetic, neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and loss of movement. We offer support and information and advocate on issues important to the SMA Community.

Story

Hello!

This year I'm competing in Norseman - an Ironman distance triathlon in the mountains of Norway on 9 August 2008. The race starts when a small number of people jump off a ferry at sunrise in the middle of a fjord and swim 3.8km to the shore. Each competitor then picks up their bike and embarks on a cheeky 180km cycle over the mountains. The final section of the race involves a marathon distance ‘stumble’ which starts at the base of a mountain and finishes at the top! I’m aiming to finish the whole lot in about 16 hours … if I survive the course! More info on the Norseman race can be found at: www.nxtri.com.

A friend's 2 year old daughter has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, which means that little Lily can't walk or crawl. So, this year I'm delighted to be raising money for The Jennifer Trust (www.jtsma.org.uk) who support families struck by SMA and hope that they may be able to discover a cure for this debilitating genetic disorder.

Thank you very much for your support,

Tim
