My story

Finished!!!!

At 6am on Sunday morning (5th August) I arrived at Middle Meadow Walk in Edinburgh having swum 2.4 miles in Loch Tay, cycled 112 miles to Falkirk and run and walked 26.2 miles along the canal to Edinburgh, in almost exactly 24 hours.

The swim was probably the hardest part as the water was cold, choppy and very intimidating at 6 in the morning. The cycle was not helped by a strong headwind for the first half but I stayed tucked in behind my cycle team and we made good steady progress the whole way. The run/walk was a long, gruelling effort through a drizzly night on sore stumps, but by now the end was in sight and nothing was going to stop me!

Big Up. Massive thanks to everyone who helped including Howard, Chris, Nicky, Dave, Jude, Fin the dog, Colleen, Stuart, Jane, Andy, Carol, Callum, Lindsey, Colin, Mary, Michael, Lindsey, John, Geoff, Ant, Olivia, The Bicycle Works team, Scott, Francine, Olivia, and most of all my wife and kids, Anna, Iris, Alix and Liam. I simply couldn't have done it without all the help I received.

Fundraising is going fantastically well and we are well on our way to reaching the target. Thanks so much to everyone who has given so generously. If you haven't donated yet, you know what to do! Your money will make a real difference to amputees less fortunate than myself.

Thanks again, Jamie

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am a mountaineer who 8 years ago lost my hands and feet to frostbite following a terrible mountaineering accident.  Since then I have had to rebuild my life and I have learned to walk again, run, ski, snowboard and I have returned to mountaineering.

I have climbed many mountains, run marathons and achieved many other challenges. Now I have co-founded a new charity called 500 miles, and to celebrate the fact I have set myself a new challenge!

On the fourth of August, in , I am going to attempt to complete an Iron Man Triathlon length event.

2.4 mile swim

112 mile cycle

26.2 mile run

All non-stop in 24 hours!

Iron Man Triathlon is widely considered as one of the most gruelling feats of athletic endurance, even for able-bodied athletes, and for me as a quadruple amputee this looks set to be my biggest challenge yet!

Iron Man is a registered trade mark, so instead this is Titanium Man, named after the high performance metal of which my prosthetic leg components are made.

This looks set to be my biggest challenge yet.  In order to complete my Titanium Man Challenge, I need your help!  I need your sponsorship!

So please sponsor me now!

The money raised is going to a fantastic cause and your support is very much appreciated.

More details are available at www.titaniumman.co.uk and www.500miles.co.uk

Many thanks
Jamie

My charity

500 miles

500 miles

Charity Registration No. SC038205

500 miles aims to support the delivery of prosthetic and orthotic services and surgery which promotes mobility and function for amputees and other disabled people in Malawi and Zambia. Prostheses are devices which substitute for body parts which are missing and orthoses are devices, like splints, which support body parts which are present but which are weak or do not function properly. 500 miles helps people to access and afford prosthetic, orthotic and surgical services today - but, through training and education, it is also trying to develop the future capacity of these services in Malawi and Zambia. Visit www.500miles.co.uk for more information.
