Story

Thanks for visiting TJ's  fundraising page. We are running the Bristol 10 K to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Support charity via TJ's. This group is made up of netball girls and family members but we welcome anyone else to join us, men included (we won't make you wear the netball kit!).  The runners are:-

Beth & Claire Heley, Amy Bowers,Hayley Clements, Claire Smith, Jess Veasey, Becky Cox, Staci & Jill Jefferies, Kim Douglas,Tina Dean, Rachel Russell, Hayley & Cath Pike, Kat Brockett, Dom Hancock, Karen & Leah Biddel, Charlotte Hunt, Claire Burnard, Rachel Harris, Laura Helme, Sophie Bull, Phil Rosling and Sonia Gough.

We decided to run the race to raise money for a charity of Hayley's choice and here are a few words from Hayley :-

' It was Monday morning, the day before my 27th Birthday when I received the most devastating news of my life.

The day I was diagnosed with having Thyroid Cancer.

From the second you leave the consultants office there are about a million unanswered questions swimming around in your mind for which you want quick and knowledgeable answers. Fortunately, the MacMillan Support nurses are on hand 24/7. I was assigned a nurse that was specialised in my area of Cancer and she was extremely patient, knowledgeable and caring!!  In my opinion these nurses are saints!! They were not just there for me in my time of need, but were on call for all my friends and family when they wanted to ask questions or just have a talk about how they were feeling.

I was told I would need scans to see how far the Cancer had spread, and as you can imagine waiting at a time like this is the worst feeling ever – I was a wreak, my MacMillan nurse even hand delivered some of the Scan request forms so that we didn't have to wait for them to be delayed in the post. She visited me at all my appointments, and popped in for a chat and a coffee when I was in hospital after my surgery.

When I was approaching my 1st lot of Radio Iodine treatment, the MacMillan Nurses arranged for me to meet with a another girl of a similar age who had already undergone the treatment so I could ask some questions and gain more information first hand, They arranged free Raki sessions with another Cancer survivor, and needless to say they will be there when I start to undergo the final step of my treatment which will be External Beam Radiotherapy.

I will be in the middle of this final step of my treatment when TJ's take on the Bristol 10k……... I am determined to make it around the course, even if I have to walk or be pushed in a wheelchair because I believe that raising money for this cause is one way of saying thank you to a wonderful caring profession, giving them the opportunity to help others.
'

TJ's Netball Club was set up in 1995, by Hayley's mum Sue along with some of her friends.
