Story

**Final Update** - Well, it's the 31st March as I write this.  The sponsored slim is officially over, I lost 32lbs (14.5kg) on the official scales, although the Doctor's scales for the same period showed a loss of 35lbs (15.9kg) so I'd rather go with that! ;) That's about 11% of my body weight gone.

This page will stay open until midnight tonight in case anyone thinks my efforts are worth a quid or two.

As I write this I'll be donating £90 roughly so thanks for all the support!

All the best,

Daniel

**Update 3** - Not going to be doing the race now.  I'm not ready - was a literal case of running before I could walk.  I WILL do one before the year is out though, mark my words.

--

**Update 2** - I've now lost well over a stone and a half, nearing two stone (if current pace lasts I'll hit the 2 stone mark next week, two months after my diabetes diagnosis).

And now something else... on March 14th, the day after my birthday, I will be taking place in my first organised run.  It's an event called the "Fradley 10K", sponsored by the company I work for.  Well, don't worry - I'm not going too fast for myself.  As part of this 10K there's also a 2K run, and that I'm sure I'm capable of.  I'm not asking for extra sponsorship - the event is in aid of St. Giles so I'm doing it as part of this same sponsorship.  Hopefully you can see I'm really trying on this, and I'm already up to jogging 1-1.5K easily so the 2K, at a reasonable pace, should be no problem in a month's time.  Frankly I can't wait!

--

***Update*** - since my first weigh-in on the 6th January I have lost almost a stone, or roughly 6kg.  But I need more help on the sponsorship!  Please give even the smallest amounts.  Thanks for your time and your support.

Those who know me will know that I have been a "larger" person for most of my life - since I was 7 years old!  At the end of 2009 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  Whilst this isn't life threatening or anywhere near as bad as a lot of the diseases people raise money for, it's meaning an entire lifestyle change for me and a significant loss of weight is needed too - but whilst I'm doing this for myself, I also want to help others.  So when a group of staff from my workplace, Soleco UK Ltd - makers of Florette Salads - said they were holding a "Sponsored Slim" in aid of St Giles Hospice I knew this was something I had to do.

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering specialist medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and helpers.  The slim is taking place over three months and is due to end on the 31st March 2010.  Please sponsor whatever you can, however small - it's a great charity, who do a lot of work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
