Hi Everyone. Thanks for making it this far and to everyone who has kindly sponsored us already. The darling little girl in the photo is Georgia Macpherson, our niece. Back in October, Georgia was diagnosed with the medical condition, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and tragically, was given just 2-5 months to live. Despite the circumstances Nick and Emma were (and are) inspirational, and we managed to have a special Christmas and New Year together. Georgia was admitted to hospital on 2nd January with a chest infection. By the next morning the family had assembled to say goodbye and Georgia was given the Last Rites. Amazingly she rallied again, and mercifully had enough strength to be transferred to Naomi House, a childrens' hospice. Although the next three days were incredibly painful, we take comfort from the fact that they were spent in the compassionate care of this hospice as opposed to the hospital. Georgia died on 6th January with Nick and Emma at her side. The hospice is a very special place that understands the needs of both parent and child and focuses on making the last few days as peaceful and pain free as possible We are planning on walking a double marathon (52 miles) to raise money for Naomi House which is run entirely on charitable donations. We plan to walk from Gav Thompson's (a friend and fellow walker) house in Oxfordshire leaving on Thursday Feb 7th, ending up at Nick & Emma's house in Berkshire sometime on Saturday Feb 9th. We want to raise £4,500 or more if possible! Please dig deep and do your best to help us on our way. It will mean an awful lot to us, and even more to Nick and Emma. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Naomi House Childrens Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Thank you all very, very much. Toby & Tanya x
