Story
Update on 23rd August - Day after the event
We left home at 7.35am, 5 mins late due to Stuart's chain coming off after 1 meter. We passed the 111 mile mark at 6.01pm, I minute behind schedule after a very gruelling day. Don't ever let people tell you that Norfolk is flat. Total miles covered = 117 at an average moving speed of 14mph.
Thanks you to everyone.
We are raising money in memory of our son, Toby.
Toby was born on 2nd October 2008, 2.5 weeks early, weighing a healthy 6lbs 11oz. Toby seemed fine at birth but after a short time, had trouble breathing and was admitted to the NICU unit within the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. To our worst nightmares, and despite massive effort by the doctors and nurses, Toby gradually got worse and was on a ventilator after 6 weeks. On 20th January, after 111 days of giving us immense pleasure, Toby died peacfully in mummy Helena's arms. Mummy, Daddy & brother William will miss Toby forever. We thank our Toby for all the love we shared.
Daddy Robert will be doing a 111 mile bike ride on 22nd August, with our friend Stuart Drabble, to celebrate Toby's 111 days of life. Having done little fitness until starting training on 29th March 2009, I will go in to this with some trepidation. However, a days worth of effort / pain will be little compared with the effort Toby put in during his life.

Money raised will buy a big baby cot in the Neonatal Intensive care unit. This will be a fitting memory to Toby as he was the only big baby on the unit at the time, the other's all being premature. Toby out grew 2 beds so we wish that future full term babies can be cared for in comfort, both of the baby and the nurses. The cost of a specialised cot bed is £2500, towards which we have so far raised £1000 from donations at Toby's funeral.
Additional money raised beyond this will be given to EACH (East Anglian Children's Hospice). The team have given us wonderful support during the last few weeks of Toby's life and continue to do so. Please see their website for all work that the team at the hospice do to help other children and families. http://www.each.org.uk/
We thank you, on behalf of Toby, for any support you can give to these 2 worthy causes, Robert, Helena & William x x x
