Sam completed the race in a respectable 1hr. 37min. the temperature was -3 when they set off and the ice on the numerous 'ponds' had to be broken with a sledgehammer in order for the race to proceed. it was a beautiful sunny day and she thoroughly enjoyed being in mud to her knees and water to her waist.
