Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Founded in 1974, by growing our register of stem cell donors, conducting research and supporting patients, Anthony Nolan cures blood cancer and blood disorders. But we need to do more. Without you, there is no cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm taking part in the Great North Run in an attempt to raise over £1000 for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charity. It is a charity which works towards finding stem cell and bone marrow donors for blood cancer sufferers.

Anthony Nolan is a charity which became close to my heart since I found out about my good friend, Martin Solomon, suffering from Hodgkins Lymphoma (a form blood cancer) for the second time in his short 20-year lifetime.

Please read Martin's story below:

Manchester lad Martin Solomon, 20, is battling stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma and needs a lifesaving transplant. Despite a worldwide search, no match can be found.

We are urging people aged 16-30 to join the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register and become potential lifesavers. Over 30 can join via the NHS blood bank asking for a bone marrow registration form.

Those who are ineligible we urge to make... a Donation!!!!!!!

After being successfully treated for Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2007, Martin spent 4 years cancer free, but found out he had relapsed in August this year. Doctors have now told us that a bone marrow transplant is his only chance of survival.

Martin was about to enter the 3rd year of his Biomedical Science degree at Newcastle University before he received the news.

The chance of finding a match if you’re mixed race like Martin is just 40%, compared to 90% for white northern European patients. We are therefore launching a Match4Martin campaign encouraging donors from mixed race and ethnic minority backgrounds to join the register.

Anyone who’s eligible to step forward and become potential lifesavers for the 1600 people in the UK who need a bone marrow transplant to live. Martin is just 20 years old. 10 minutes out of your life could give him the rest of his.

Join the register online today to help give patients like Martin the chance of life.

So please dig deep and donate whatever you can afford to this amazing cause.

Thanks,

Tom
