Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Every 2 hours, someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury. Their world – and that of their family – is turned upside-down. SIA aim to reach everyone affected by spinal cord injury, to connect them to all the help and support they need to life a fulfilled life.

Story

The picture you can see on this page is of myself and Tom. Tom is my son and he is 6 years old. Tom was involved in a car accident over 12 months ago on Jan 15 2008. Unfortunately Tom suffered 3 fractured vertebrae in his neck and completely severed his spinal cord at around C5/C6. Tom is now a tetraplegic and in a wheelchair. He is paralysed from the arm pits down with no skin sensation from there down. He has good arm movement but very limited movement in his hands. Tom is able to push his own wheelchair and on a positive note he is back in mainstream school full time. Tom is coping remarkably well with his injuries and long may he continue to do so.

I have chosen to run the London Marathon this April for charity. I will be raising money for the SIA.  We have already raised approx. £8,000 with other fund raising ideas.
