Story

Hello!

Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page. Please give as much as you can to help me raise as much money as I possibly can for a brilliant cause.

My history of running long distances is not an entirely happy one. I was the only boy in my school year to be beaten in the inter-house cross country race by 3 girls. They started 20 minutes after us. It was a 3 mile course. Ever since then, I have equated running with humiliation, although that might also have something to do with my outfit. So when last year some of my “friends” convinced me to do a half-marathon I had my doubts. It would be something of a stretch, and quite probably a lie, to say that I have enjoyed training for the race, but the fear of failure has driven me on through blizzards, storms, mud and a great deal of chafing.

On the 9th of April I will be running the Reading half-marathon to raise money for the Christian Aid Running Water campaign:

  • £1 is all it costs to disinfect 3 wells in Nicaragua.
  • £3.50 would provide enough clean drinking water for an entire school in the Dominican Republic for a whole week.
  • £6 could build a latrine in Peru to improve the hygiene and health of an entire community.
  • £11 is the cost of training an Ethiopian farmer to provide and maintain a clean water supply for a whole village.
  • £25 pays for the installation of a new well in El Salvador giving a community access to a safe and constant supply of water.

You can play your part, please sponsor me. If you are a UK taxpayer then Gordon Brown, generous chap that he is, will add 28% to your donation when you tick the gift aid box. Result.

Thanks ever so much for your support.
